Getting Around Fethiye: Dolmuş, Ölüdeniz and Çalış
Prime Turist local team · Updated: November 2026 · 4 min read
In Fethiye you get around town by dolmuş (shared minibus), on foot and by taxi. Frequent dolmuşes from the centre run to Ölüdeniz via Ovacık and Hisarönü and take about half an hour. There's a regular dolmuş to Çalış, and in summer a water taxi from the harbour. The centre itself (the harbour, Paspatur, the Amyntas Rock Tombs) is easy to explore on foot. You pay the dolmuş fare in cash; ask what time the last one runs when you get on.

How do you use the dolmuş in Fethiye?
Dolmuşes are the backbone of public transport in Fethiye. The destination is shown on a sign in the windscreen: Ölüdeniz, Hisarönü, Ovacık, Çalış, Kayaköy and so on. In the centre you get on at the stops; along the route you can also flag one down by raising your hand.
• Fare: Paid to the driver in cash. Carry coins and small notes.
• Getting off: As you approach your stop, call out to the driver; they'll pull over briefly even away from a stop.
• Luggage: The vehicles are small and there's no room for large suitcases. For the airport, a transfer is more comfortable.
• Times: In summer services run frequently from morning to evening; in winter they're less frequent and finish earlier. Ask the driver what time the last service back runs when you get on.
How do you get from central Fethiye to Ölüdeniz?
Ölüdeniz is about 12–14 km from central Fethiye. Dolmuşes run down to Ölüdeniz via Ovacık and Hisarönü; including stops, the journey takes about half an hour. This is the cheapest way to go.
By taxi or in your own car you'll get there in 20–25 minutes. At midday in summer, finding a parking space in Ölüdeniz gets difficult; if you're driving, set off early in the morning.
We cover what to do in Ölüdeniz in our Ölüdeniz guide. If you're going for the Ölüdeniz Boat Trip or paragliding, you can add the hotel pick-up option for an extra charge; then you don't have to think about dolmuş times.
How do you get from central Fethiye to Çalış?
Çalış Beach is a few kilometres from the centre. Dolmuşes leave the centre for Çalış regularly; in summer they run roughly every 15–20 minutes.
In the summer months a water taxi also runs from Fethiye harbour to Çalış. It's both transport and a short sea trip; you can watch the sunset in Çalış in the evening and come back the same way.
For Çalış and the bays around it, have a look at our article on hidden bays to visit in Fethiye.
Explore the centre on foot
The sights in central Fethiye are close together. The harbour, the marina, the ancient theatre and the old bazaar in Paspatur are all on the same walk; you won't need a vehicle at all.
The Amyntas Rock Tombs are also in the town centre: it's an 8–10 minute walk uphill from Atatürk Caddesi, and the last stretch is stone steps. In summer, go up in the late afternoon rather than in the midday heat.
Getting to Kayaköy, Saklıkent and other places
• Kayaköy: It's about 8–10 km from Fethiye town centre. You can get there by dolmuş from Fethiye and Hisarönü, by taxi or by car; you can also walk there from Hisarönü and Ölüdeniz on the Lycian Way footpath.
• Lycian Way: The starting point is Ovacık; from central Fethiye it's about 20 minutes on the Ölüdeniz dolmuşes. Details are in our article on Lycian Way starting points.
• Butterfly Valley: The easiest way to reach the valley is by boat from Ölüdeniz. Routes and options are in our Butterfly Valley article.
• Saklıkent and Tlos: These are far from the centre, and combining the two in one day by dolmuş is difficult. The Saklıkent Gorge Tour from Fethiye picks you up from your hotel and takes you to Tlos and the gorge.
• Dalaman Airport: About an hour's drive from central Fethiye. With luggage, the easiest option is an airport transfer booked in advance.
Taxis and car hire
Taxis in Fethiye use a meter. They're handy for getting back late at night and for places the dolmuş doesn't go; on longer journeys, ask for an approximate fare before you get in.
You don't need a hire car every day. In summer, parking is hard to find in the centre, in Çalış and in Ölüdeniz, gorge and safari tours pick you up from and drop you back at your hotel, and boat trips offer hotel pick-up for an extra charge. A car makes sense for a day or two for places tours don't go, such as Kayaköy or remote bays.
A day plan that makes getting around easier
Give each day to a single area, so you don't travel the same road twice. For example: one day the centre and Çalış in the late afternoon, one day Ölüdeniz, one day a boat trip.
Combining the far-flung spots with tours that include hotel pick-up cuts out transport costs. For a sample five-day programme, see our 5-day budget itinerary.
